Automotive Technology

Two Year Associate of Applied Science Degree

Program Description

The Automotive Technology Program provides fundamental knowledge, skills, and training necessary for employment or career advancement as an automotive technician.

 

In Automotive Technology I students will receive hands-on instruction in Preventative Maintenance, Brake Systems, Basic Electrical, Suspension and Alignment, Fuel systems, Ignition systems, Engine Repair, Automatic and Manual Drive Transmissions, and Air Conditioning Systems.

 

Automotive Technology II they will receive in-depth hands-on instruction in application of Strategy-based Diagnostics, Advanced Troubleshooting of computer controlled power train systems and multiple computer systems, Alternative Fuels, and Hybrid Technology.  Automotive Technology II is constantly updating curriculum to meet changing technology.

 

Automotive Technology-Beloit is a fully certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). The purpose of a training certification program is to improve the quality of training offered. NATEF does not endorse specific curricular materials nor provide instruction. It does, however, set standards for the content of instruction, which includes tasks, tools and equipment, hours, and instructor qualifications. Program standards are developed based on ASE task lists and are designed to bring training programs to a level at which participants are properly trained for entry level into the industry. Once a training program meets the established standards and goes through the certification process, it can be certified as a program that actually teaches technicians to today's industry standards.

 

Automotive Technology-Beloit is a Ford Maintenance and Light Vehicle Repair training center, currently there are only 55 training facilities in the United States that meet these stringent requirements. The students will be able to receive 25% of the Ford Service Technician Specialty Training required to be a Master Ford Technician. Students will have access to Ford online training and Service Publication that is usually on accessible by Ford Technicians. Ford Classes.

 

Automotive Technology-Beloit is also an ACDelco training center. The ACDelco Total Service Support (TSS) Program is designed to help Independent Service Centers (ISC) grow their businesses, increase profitability, and improve overall operating efficiency. Automotive Technology-Beloit students will take Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) tests as part of their curriculum. Automotive Technology will take at least one ASE test in the spring semester. Automotive Technology II will take at least two ASE tests in the fall semester and two in the spring semester.

 

Automotive Technology-Beloit students are members of SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA enables our students to learn leadership skills as well as compare their knowledge in Automotive Technology compared to students from other programs in the state. NCKTC Automotive Technology-Beloit has consistently been the leader in the state for this competition, in fact have won or placed second every year since 2000. Automotive Technology-Beloit even placed 3rd in nation at the SkillsUSA National Competition.

 

Job Titles & Starting Salaries of Past Students Include:

  • Independent Shop Owner/Operator - $38,000 per year
  • Service Technician for Dealership - $36,000 per year in Clay Center, $30,000 per year in Abilene, and $90,000 in Kansas City.
  • Service Technician for Independent repair Center - $70,000 per year in Kansas City and $46,000 per year in Wichita.

These salaries represent beginning salaries of graduates receiving a two year Associate of Applied Science Degree.
