Automotive Technology Curriculum

Beloit Campus

The Automotive Technology Program provides fundamental knowledge, skills, and training necessary for entry level employment or career advancement as an automotive technician. The student will be trained in advanced brake systems, basic electrical, fuel systems, electronic automatic transmission drive trains, and alternative fuel vehicles. Electronics and computerization are emphasized to meet the changing demands of the automotive industry. Internships with employers are available. Options available to the students include an Associate of Applied Science Degree or an Automotive Technology Two Year Certificate.

Program Objectives

  • Possess the knowledge to perform tasks consistent with entry-level automotive technology employment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing automotive technology skills.
  • Have knowledge of hazards and related safety practices associated with the automotive industry.
  • Use appropriate mathematical data and reasoning skills relative to the automotive technology field.
  • Use appropriate and necessary communication skills to ensure success in career performance, professional relations, and employment retention.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of personal and work characteristics that contribute to an effective career performance.

Entrance Requirements

  • Students wishing entrance into the Automotive Technology II class will submit in writing why they wish to be considered and future goals that they want this program to help them attain. Students applying for Automotive Technology will be selected by:
    • Student must have achieved a passing grade in Automotive Technology I courses.
    • Students must have proof of a valid driver’s license.
    • All candidates will have a 2.5 GPA or above including all general education courses.
    • Candidates will be arranged by grade point average of classroom grades.
      GPA x 10 = 40 point max
    • Candidates will be arranged by grade point average of lab grades.
      GPA x 10 = 40 point max
    • Associate Degree students will receive 10 bonus points.
    • Candidates will have a deduction of one point per day of unexcused absence during the complete first year program.
    • Candidates will receive one point per Ford training class completed during Automotive Technology I.
    • The composite score of the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation test will serve as the tiebreaker.
