GIS/GPS Technology

Two Year Associate of Applied Science Degree

Program Description

The GIS / GPS Technology program provides training in geographical information systems software using global positioning systems technology.  Using surveying and AutoCAD, students will design and construct a fully integrated GIS database that can map and layer GPS data into usable information formats.  Many different municipalities (city, county, state organizations) can utilize this information to maintain and track data over a period of time.  Our students will be a valuable asset to any company needing to map and manage their infrastructure.

For example Westar Co. has GPS'd their entire electric and gas grid and they use it to respond to outages along with maintaining their equipment.  Our graduates would be able to work for a variety of prospective employers.

  • Local Government
  • State Government
  • Federal Government
  • Electric and Gas Utilities and Cooperatives
  • Telecommunications Companies
  • Service and Delivery - UPS, Sears, FedEx, etc.
  • Rural Farm Cooperatives - Chemical Application

Potential Starting Salaries of Students Include:

  • Local Government - (Average $25,000 per year and up)
  • Private Companies - ($45,000 per year)
  • Telecommunication Companies and Independent Repair Centers - (Average $50,000+ per year)

These are potential salaries based on two year associate degree averages.
