Heavy Equipment Operation

One Year Certificate

Program Description

NCKTC provides the only training program in the state for Heavy Equipment Operation and is the oldest and most prominent school of its kind in the Central United States.  Heavy Equipment offers not only classroom lecture but also hands-on real life experience.  Students must be 18 years of age, pass a drug screen and safety course before operating equipment.

In Heavy Equipment Operation:

  • Students will receive hands-on instruction in the operation of Scrapers, Motor Graders, Dozers, Backhoes, and Front-end Loaders.
  • Theory courses will include Rollers, Asphalt Paving Equipment, Concrete Paving Equipment and GIS/GPS Training.
  • Understand the hazards of working with heavy equipment and the procedures to follow to prevent injury.
  • Use appropriate mathematical data and reasoning skills in relation to entry-level employment in a heavy equipment profession.
  • Apply effective communication skills appropriate to the industry.

Potential Starting Salaries of Students Include:

  • Paving, Surfacing and Tampering Equipment Operators - ($11.50 to $19.50 per hour)
  • Operating Engineers and other Construction Equipment Operators - ($12.67 to $19.31 per hour)
  • Highway Maintenance Worker - ($11.54 to $13.74 per hour)
