Heavy Equipment Operation Curriculum

Beloit Campus

The Heavy Equipment Program is the only Heavy Equipment Operator Program in the State of Kansas and the leading program in the Midwest. Hands-on training is provided with scrapers, motor graders, tractor crawler operations, excavators, loaders and backhoes. Also, theory course training includes rollers, asphalt and concrete paving equipment. Internships with employers are available. A Heavy Equipment Certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.

Program Objectives

  • Possess the knowledge to perform entry-level employment in the Heavy Equipment field.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing Heavy Equipment Operator technical skills.
  • Understand the hazards of working with heavy equipment and the procedures to follow to prevent injury.
  • Use mathematical data and reasoning skills in relation to heavy equipment operation.
  • Use effective communication skills appropriate to the heavy equipment profession.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of personal and work characteristics that contribute to an effective job performance.
