Practical Nursing Curriculum

Beloit Campus

The Practical Nursing Program is a full-time 9-month program leading to a certificate. The student will receive education to perform nursing measures with precision and efficiency consistent with current evidence based practices. Nursing theory is taught in the classroom by professionals in the nursing field. Under professional supervision, students obtain extensive clinical experience through hands-on experiential learning. Upon completion, students are prepared for licensure through the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-PN®).

Program Objectives

  • Possess the knowledge to perform tasks appropriate for entry-level practical nursing positions.
  • Apply the theory of nursing to specific tasks/situation using critical thinking and reasoning skills and the ability to work dependently, inter-dependently and independently.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hazards and related safety practices associated with the nursing field.
  • Use appropriate mathematical data and reasoning skills in relation to nursing.
  • Use effective verbal, non-verbal, written and computer-generated skills appropriate to the nursing profession.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of personal and professional characteristics that contribute to an effective job performance.
