Curriculum

The Associate Degree Nursing Program is a full-time, multiple entry/exit, 18-month program leading to an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree. The student will receive education to perform nursing interventions with precision and efficiency consistent with current concepts and evidence based practices. Professionals in the nursing field teach nursing theory in the classroom. Under professional supervision, students obtain extensive clinical experience through hands-on experiential training. Successful completion of the first year will prepare the student for licensure through the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN®). Successful completion of the second year will prepare the student for licensure through the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN®)

Program Objectives

  • Possess the knowledge to perform tasks appropriate for entry-level practical nurse and registered nurse positions.
  • Possess knowledge of health/illness concepts in assisting individuals, families and the community toward an optimum level of health.
  • Apply the nursing process in meeting basic to complex health problems of individuals, families and the community throughout the life span.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hazards and related safety practices associated with the nursing profession.
  • Use effective communication skills appropriate to the nursing profession.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of personal and professional characteristics that contribute to an effective job performance.
  • Demonstrates the capacity to problem solve and think critically.
