The North Central Kansas Technical College has spent a considerable amount of time, effort and investment in keeping your computing environment as safe and rewarding as possible from the ever increasing threats associated with the Internet. In order to maintain this high quality, safe computing environment we require these common practices from every computer user.

Downloading/Installing files/programs from the Internet is strictly prohibited on all college computers without prior approval from the college's IT staff or their representatives due to the following reasons:

  • Increased security risks to the college's Information Systems, (viruses, malware, and spyware are ever increasingly embedded within many downloadable files).
    • Majority of the restricted websites are blocked because of embedded harmful content within those sites.
  • Copyright and legal issues.
    • Every file/program you download has legal binding copyrights associated with them and their use. A person without knowing can bring a potential law suit upon themselves because they did not read or understand the downloaded files/programs copyright. That law suit would not involve the college because of the college's Acceptable Use Policies that every user is required to read and sign, it would be directed to the end user that abused those policies.
