Internet Usage Policy

North Central Kansas Technical College has spent a considerable amount of time, effort and investment in keeping it's computing environment as safe and rewarding as possible from the various threats associated with the Internet. In order to maintain this high quality, safe computing environment the college requires these common practices from every computer user.

• Please limit your access to the Internet to research or job function.
• Never open any email attachment from someone you do not know.
• Virus scan ALL email attachments before opening them, even from someone you know!
• Do not upload, download or install any Internet software, web browsers, applications or toolbars without approval.
• Always try to use well known and respected companies websites.
• Do Not Click on popup banners or Ads for Free Gifts!
• Do Not Sign up or give out your email address for any free promotions or unknown list serv's.
• Block all cookies unless required by an approved website, if required then add that site to your allowed cookies list.
• Always keep your Antivirus/security software up-to-date.
• Instant Messaging programs are not allowed on the college network.
• Perform Spyware and Virus scans weekly unless you suspect problems, if so then scan immediately.
• If in doubt, end your Internet session and start over.

Any end user uploading/downloading files/programs on any college computer without the prior knowledge and approval from the college's IT staff or their representatives is in direct violation of the Acceptable Use Policy and may result in the immediate removal of all Information Systems privileges.

* All college Internet access is filtered, automatically scanned for spyware and viruses, and logged for the safety of all users.
